Enhancing Airport Safety and Security

Safety and security remain the current focus, especially as we address deferred maintenance issues. While many improvements may seem small, each one plays a role in creating a safer environment for everyone. From runway lighting to parking lot repairs, these upgrades build a stronger foundation for airport operations and security.

Restored Runway Lighting
One of the most noticeable changes is the restoration of the runway lights. Previously, some lights were dim or out, which posed risks during nighttime operations. Now, all runway lights are fully operational and of the same brightness.

Fuel Farm Lights Now Fully Functional
For years, the fuel farm lights did not work, making refueling in low light conditions challenging, especially at night. Taxiing around the pumps at night is much safer now and you can see the pumps to operate them!

Removed 'The Tree' to Improve Safety and Save Infrastructure
The removal of the Eastern Pine tree, often referred to as "The Tree," was a particularly noticeable change. This tree blocked the airport beacon to the east, which made an already difficult to find airport at night even more challenging. By removing this obstruction, the beacon’s visibility has improved, contributing to safer flight operations.
Additionally, the tree’s roots were damaging the parking lot asphalt, causing uneven surfaces and potential tripping hazards. It would also interfere with a planned security fence. so removing the tree was necessary to prepare for that upgrade.
Small Improvements Add Up to a Safer Airport
These examples show how small, focused improvements can have a big impact on airport safety and security. Each upgrade addresses a specific issue or problem, but together they create a more reliable and secure environment. From lighting to infrastructure, these changes help prevent accidents and reduce the liability that goes along with them.
Thank You Board Members and Volunteers
None of these improvements would be possible without the dedication of board members and volunteers.
